CSO Activity

The West Alley portion of the sewer system has combined sewers (stormwater catchbasins and building drains are connected to the sanitary sewers) and is therefore permitted to discharge to the Monongahela River during certain precipitation events. The discharge location is clearly marked along the Monongahela River and should be avoided when active since a small percentage of the discharge is sanitary waste. As part of CSO system operating permits, DEP has mandated that the permit holder, in this case the Authority, provide the following data to residents for informational purposes on an annual basis.
